Elon Musk suggested on Twitter that the economy of Mars – when it finally comes to its colonization, which is probably not anytime soon – will be based on cryptocurrencies. The billionaire responded to a post by one of the internet users, agreeing that the currency will be called Marscoin. Interestingly, a virtual coin with such a name has existed since 2014, but it is difficult to say whether the inventors meant it.

The billionaire has made no arguments to back up his claims, but his passion for cryptocurrencies is no secret – recently speaking on Twitter with business analyst and entrepreneur Michael Saylor – he considered investing billions of Tesla dollars in bitcoin.

Michael Saylor: If you want to do your shareholders a $ 100 billion favor, convert your $ TSLA wealth from dollars to bitcoins. The other S&P 500 companies will follow suit and in no time the favor will rise to a trillion dollars. Elon Musk: Are such large deals even possible?

It is worth remembering that Elon Musk often causes controversy and confusion with his plans and statements. For example, the provisions of the Starlink user regulations (for people participating in the beta-testing of the service) have recently come to light, which states that potential colonies on Mars will be treated by SpaceX as a territory independent of terrestrial laws.
